Lampenwelt GmbH, Europe’s leading online provider for lamps and lights, is continuing along its growth path. Following an investment deal from London-based international private equity firm 3i in March, an agreement between 3i and Berlin-based operational VC Project A to invest in Lampenwelt was announced on October 26th. Lampenwelt GmbH is now active in 14 core European markets, including the UK, where it is present with its www.lights.co.uk store.
The company was founded by entrepreneur Thomas Rebmann and his brother Andreas Rebmann, and its own online platform established in 2004. Today Lampenwelt is Europe’s leading online retailer of lighting products. It differentiates itself from its competitors with an extensive range of over 50,000 products, in-depth product knowledge, excellent customer service and high product availability. In the UK it offers this high level of service to customers through www.lights.co.uk. The company generated €61m of sales in 2016, of which 45% came from outside Germany. It has grown strongly both in Germany and thanks to a steady roll-out across Europe in recent years.
With this latest investment, Project A will contribute its operational capabilities and teams in areas such as online marketing, business intelligence, product management, and IT.
“With a very strong founder-led management team, significant profitable growth, and ample opportunities to further scale, Lampenwelt has the key ingredients we look for in private equity co-investment opportunities”, says Ben Fischer, Partner at Project A. “Our operational capabilities in scaling and improving digital businesses will help the company to reach its full potential and further strengthen its leading position in Europe.”
“Project A’s operational capabilities make it a perfect fit for us, and we look forward to working closely with their team of experts to make our ambitious vision for Lampenwelt a reality,” says Thomas Rebmann, founder and CEO of Lampenwelt.
Last month Lampenwelt also opened its state-of-the-art logistics and distribution centre to underpin its growth throughout Europe. The 9,500 square metre facility will help Lampenwelt to double its delivery volume to almost a quarter of a million packages per month and achieve a more efficient order processing. Lampenwelt offers customers extensive and personal advice in all European languages, guaranteed by native speakers, who respond to individual questions and customer requirements. Native English speakers are available during business hours to support customers in the UK, through the www.lights.co.uk store.
Lights.co.uk is one of 14 online shops for lamps and lighting currently offered across Europe by Germany’s Lampenwelt GmbH. With over 1.5 million customers, the company is Europe’s leading online specialist for every lighting need. As well as quality own-brand Lampenwelt products, the company offers a wide range of lamps and lighting from top brands such as FLOS, Serienlighting, Luceplan, Tecnolumen or Swarovski. Some 50,000 products are available to suit all styles and purposes. The goal of the company is to offer every client their dream lighting solution. Over 100,000 positive customer evaluations on independent evaluation portals underline its success. Lampenwelt GmbH was founded in Schlitz, Germany (around 75 miles from Frankfurt) in 2004 and now employs some 300 employees.
