Requiring a vibrant and contemporary office design that encourages innovation, IT Company Orchard Information Systems has turned to architectural lighting specialists Concord. By integrating exciting and efficient lighting into the space, the new office area at Central Square, Newcastle now reflects the modern nature of the company.

The existing open plan office space required updating, as well as the addition of compartmentalised sections to meet the requirements of the business. The resulting office space features over 1,500m² of open plan working space, hot desk facilities and smaller cubicles for private working areas.

Providing the mechanical and electrical design for the project, Sine Consulting Associate Director, David Warner, comments: “Completing the project within the tight timescale and to the high-quality finish desired meant we had very little margin for error. The flexibility of the Concord products installed helped the project to feel contemporary whilst still providing a practical space for working. Suspended luminaires were installed in rows centralised to structural columns, and the downlights are integrated perfectly in the plasterboard ceiling areas. Alternative styles and colours have been used to promote well-being and innovation in the office breakout rooms.”

Working closely with project managers Boxx Consultants, the interior designers Room 33 and the main contractor Aptus, the project was delivered on time and within budget to allow the Orchard Information Systems staff to seamlessly move to the new property.

The Concord Ovation suspended luminaires provide efficient, low-glare lighting for the high traffic areas of the office. The new Concord Ascent produces 130lm/w making it an ideal replacement for inefficient CFL downlights. Finished in white and featuring architectural reflectors, the downlights provide stylish and functional light to the office environment.

Concord Myriad Pendants provide ambient lighting in breakout and communal areas of the office, with Sylvania Rubico luminaires delivering clean and functional light in the main office circulation areas, providing members of staff with uniform lighting in which to complete daily tasks and reduce fatigue levels during the working day.

Iain Spencer, Key Account Manager at Concord, comments: “This fantastic project has demonstrated the strengths of the Concord and Feilo Sylvania product range. Capable of meeting a variety of aspirations from end users and specifiers, the luminaires are on-trend whilst still delivering the required high levels of energy efficiency. The final installation is functional, cost effective and aesthetically pleasing.”
