Art installations with lighting from the Wandlite LED tube light system at their heart are being showcased across the globe by acclaimed UK artist Andrew Miller.
The sculptures are created using pre-used lampshades which are attached together in long chains to create stunning lighting designs.

Following his success at the Hong Kong Art Fair in March, the sculptures have now been selected to be part of the Yinchuan Biennale in northern China in September. The event, entitled For an Image, Faster Than Light, will run at the Museum of Contemporary Art Yinchuan until December and feature more than 80 artists from across the globe.

Andrew, an artist with the Ingleby Gallery in Glasgow, decided to work with the Wandlite after years of trying to develop his own LED system to supply the right lighting solution for his designs.
He said: “I was finding it difficult to master the LED tube myself, so I decided to look for an off-the-shelf, tried and tested solution – and I found that in the Wandlite.

“I had previously used fluorescent lighting but wanted a solution that offered more longevity.
“The Wandlite was also a good solution for me as it offers varying tube lengths and I can string them together for installations of different sizes.”

The sculptures shown in Hong Kong were 4.5m, 3.5m and 2.5m in length and all used multiple tubes. The lampshades have an empty cylinder with a 50mm inside diameter running down the middle in the place of the usual inner structures, which houses the LED tubes and power cables. The power transformers then sit inside the top lampshade which is hung like any other light.

“Artistically Wandlite does the job well and I’m now looking at potentially replacing the fluorescent tubes in some of my earlier work with Wandlite,” added Andrew.

Wandlite founder and designer Jonathan Evitt said: “I’m delighted to see Wandlite being used in such a creative way. It’s a very practical lighting solution for a range of markets including exhibition and display, but this is the first really artistic use I’ve seen and the results are stunning.
“It’s exciting to have our product showcased in this way on the international stage and I expect the sculptures will prove as inspirational and popular at the Yinchuan Biennale as they did in Hong Kong.”

More about Wandlite

The Wandlite LED lighting system can be powered by solar powered panels, a generator, 12v car/truck/tractor lead battery or even a car cigarette lighter socket as well as mains electricity.
It is tough and durable and its weather-resistant design makes it extremely flexible as an all-round lighting system.

Manufactured in Britain to the highest standards, the Wandlite LED tube draws only 1.5 amps per metre making it extremely cost effective. It’s also inexpensive to buy, with prices starting from just £30.
The tube is virtually unbreakable and has 50,000 hours of life, which is the equivalent to 17 years life working 8 hours a day.
